Dr. Kyle Holen is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin. His clincal practice and research focus is on cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, including esophageal, stomach, pancreas, biliary, liver, colon, rectal and anal cancers, as well as on neuroendocrine tumors. He has lead clinical trials in the gastrointestinal disease oriented working group since his arrival to the UW in 2002 and currently serves as the director of the gastrointestinal cancers group in the Phase II Consortium, a national cooperative group funded by the NCI to conduct phase II clinical trials. He also holds a patent on a new drug that he is working on for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors. He is a dedicated educator, having been recently selected as the assistant director of the medical oncology fellowship program and being very active in teaching medical students, medical residents, and oncology fellows.

Dr. Holen is part of the gastrointestinal Disease-Oriented Working Group, through which multiple clinical trials in GI tumors are helping to find better treatments for those with cancer. He is also part of the experimental therapeutics program, with leadership roles in multiple new agents to treat cancers. His laboratory research efforts have been in conjunction with Dr. Herb Chen, a nationally renowned endocrine surgeon. Together, they hold multiple patents on new ways to treat neuroendocrine tumors and have been working on bringing their findings from the lab to the help patients in the clinic. |
