Carl E. Stafstrom, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the Chief of Pediatric Neurology at American Family Children’s Hospital. His medical interests include childhood epilepsy, headache, neonatal neurology, developmental delay and dietary approaches to epilepsy management. Dr. Stafstrom's teaching interests consist of educating medical students and residents in Pediatric Neurology. He serves as the Director of the Neurology Clerkship, Coordinator of Neurology electives and mentor for medical students.

Research

Dr. Stafstrom's research currently consists of mechanisms of epileptogenesis and neuronal excitability in the developing brain, effects of seizures in the developing brain on subsequent cognitive function and seizure susceptibility, dietary approaches to epilepsy management, and children's self-perception of neurologic disorders through art.
