Francis J. Thornton, MD
Faculty, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health

My clinical interests are focused upon cardiovascular imaging, particularly the use of MRI to evaluate cardiac ischemia as well as teaching of residents and medical students. My interest in cardiovascular imaging stems from the rapid evolution of imaging technology which finds a most valuable affiliation in dynamic evaluation of the heart and systemic vascular structures. My surgical fellowship at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions enabled me to understand and put into practice the many skills required to be a successful academic physician and to truly appreciate and continually appraise medical peer reviewed literature. This was further consolidated by my experience of abdominal imaging at Duke University Medical Center and an MRI Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Tom Grist at UW Hospital and Clinics, Madison, WI. My research interests are primarily related to the application of time-resolved contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography to vascular pathology throughout the body. My personal interests are many but personally I enjoy an occasional round of golf, following international rugby and travel with my family of five.
